But adults have a lot of visual experience. Do infants, with much less experience, find symmetry appealing too? Do they have a sense of symmetry? Previous research suggests that infants are sensitive to symmetry in single objects. Here we ask whether they can see symmetry in sequences of visual patterns. To answer this question, we are currently conducting an online study testing how infants perceive symmetrical and asymmetrical mosaic tiles. Interestingly, human adults show a particular sensitivity exactly for the arrangements that are most characteristic of natural scenes (Hermundstad et al., 2014). Is this preference innate or acquired through experience? To answer this question, we are currently conducting an online study. In this study, babies see 25 images created according to different arrangements of dark and bright pixels. We then measure how long babies look at each type of image to see if they have a preference for certain arrangements over others. If we find that the babies already show a preference for the arrangements present in natural scenes, as adults do, this will support the hypothesis that such preferences are part of our biological inheritance. Tuttavia, essi hanno un ricco background di esperienze visive. Ci domandiamo se anche i piccoli bambini, pur avendo molta meno esperienza, abbiano la stessa tendenza a preferire la simmetria. Studi precedenti suggeriscono che i bambini sono sensibili alle simmetrie in singoli oggetti. Nel nostro studio ci domandiamo se i bambini possono percepire le simmetrie anche in schemi visivi pi\u00f9 complessi. Per rispondere a questa domanda stiamo conducendo uno studio online che testa come i bambini percepiscono composizioni, simmetriche o asimmetriche, di tessere di mosaico. Sorprendentemente gli adulti hanno una particolare sensibilit\u00e0 per le disposizioni tipiche delle scene naturali (Hermundstad et al., 2014). Ma si tratta di una preferenza innata o acquisita tramite l\u2019esperienza? Per rispondere a questa domanda stiamo conducendo uno studio online. In questo studio i bambini vedranno 25 immagini create secondo combinazioni diverse di pixel chiari e scuri. Misureremo quanto a lungo i bambini guardano ciascun tipo di immagine per capire se hanno gi\u00e0 una preferenza per certe combinazioni rispetto ad altre. Se troveremo anche nei neonati una preferenza per le texture presenti in natura, supporteremo l\u2019ipotesi che queste preferenze sono parte del nostro patrimonio biologico.
